As our guild has grown and evolved from a smaller collective of instance runners to a multi-tiered raiding body, so has our need for maintaining a policy on loot rules.  As a governing body, our guild has removed itself from the micro-management inherent in attempting to set policy all the way down to the 5 man level.  Instead we have chosen to allow each group to set their own rules at the 5 and 10 man levels.  It is up to each participant in those events to either agree with the rules, or leave the event.  If a member feels that their rights and fairness has been violated, we will look into the matter... but at large, it is up to each individual to maintain their own interests at this level by only attending the events that they support.
At the 25-man raiding level, it is a completely different matter.  Everyone whom attends these raids is required to agree to the following loot system that has been specifically designed to maintain a consistent and fair system of rewards for all members.  It is the responsibility of the individual to be familiar with the flow of this system and their options within it prior to attending a raiding event.  If there are any questions about this system, ask an officer for a detailed explanation and one will be provided.  If there are no questions prior to the run, it is assumed that all participants know and understand how things work.  There will naturally be a few spur of the moment questions that will arise in any given raid pertaining to this system... but the distribution of loot is not the time to start asking how things work.  Know in advance or run the risk of losing out.

recipe version 1.11

The Beny Brownie Point System

The Basics
  • Participating in instance runs awards each player points.  Points gained from the run are awarded at the end of the night.
  • When loot drops, interested players use their points to bid for items and the highest bidder wins the item.  Points spent are subtracted from each player's total as the run progresses.
  • Points are instance specific (although they can be transfered under certain circumstances -- see below).  For example, points gained by running Gruul's lair can't be used to bid on items in Serpent Shrine Caverns.
  • This system is only intended for 25 person runs; we'll keep using straight rolls for 10 person instances

Getting points
  • Showing up on time for a run rewards each participant a flat number of points (defined as: at the meeting stone and ready to enter the instance at the posted raid start time).  Exceptions for extenuating circumstances can be granted at the discretion of the RL (for example, for players invited at the last minute to fill open spots).
  • Players who have signed up for a raid but have not been selected to join the run because of raid composition constraints will earn 1/2 of the points earned by the players who were on the raid that evening.  To earn these points you must whisper the master looter at the raid start time to verify that you are online and would have been available to go on the run if you had been needed.*new*
  • Participating in a successful boss kill awards each participant an additional flat number of points.
  • Every hour of active play that passes in which the raid fails to kill a boss will award each participant the number of points associated with a boss kill on that run.
  • Here's a table of how many points you can get in the different instances:

Instance Showing up on time Each Boss Number of bosses Minimum bid
Gruul's Lair 4 4 2 24
Magtheridon's Lair 4 4 1 16
The Eye 4 4 4 32
Serpentshrine Cavern 4 4 6 32
Mount Hyjal 4 4 5 32
Black Temple 4 4 9 32
Sunwell Plateau 4 4 6 32

Using points
After valliantly beating shiny new toys out of a boss, there are four possible phases to dealing with the loot.  The first two phases are 'need' rounds, the third a 'greed' round and in the fourth the item gets sharded.

First phase: the minimum bid (think need round)
  • Interested players bid by whispering the Master Looter (ML) with the number of points they wish to bid
  • The player bidding the most points wins the item, and the ML posts each person's name and bid to the raid chat channel.
  • The winning player looses the minimum number of points that would have been required to win the bid.  For example, if Sonora bids 6 points and Beny bids 12 points, the bid will be won by Beny for 7 points; and Beny will only have 7 points subtracted from her total for that instance.
  • If two players bid the same number of points they /roll for the item (or play a game of "no you take it!" as is the Dragonflight way Smiley)
  • Players can bid a number between the minimum bid and the total number of points they have banked for the current instance
  • If a player has between 0 points and the minimum bid available, she can bid exactly the minimum bid (putting her in the negative for the difference between the minimum bid and the number of points she has)
  • The minimum bid is set by instance according to the points table shown above.
  • Loot bid on in this phase MUST be class/build appropriate and an upgrade.  'Appropriate' is at the discretion of the ML, but will be liberally evaluated from the perspective of the role(s) a character normally fills on raids (for example, a moonkin druid bidding on +spell dmg cloth is perfectly acceptable; a feral druid bidding on +healing cloth is probably not)
  • After a player has won an item in a first phase competition they cannot bid in the first phase again for the remainder of the run.

Second phase: the minimum bid again (think need round #2)
If its needed, a second minimum bid phase can happen..
  • This round is identical to the first phase, BUT you can bid in this phase even if you've won a first phase bid previously, and winning an item in this phase doesn't prevent you from bidding in the first phase subsequently.
  • You can also always place a minimum bid during this phase, even if you have less than 0 points.
  • If you're holding out for a second phase bidding round on a item, its a very good idea to tell the master looter this is your plan during the first bidding phase to make sure they know a second phase needs to happen if there are no first phase winners.

Third phase: free bidding (think greed round)
If no minimum bids are placed, a third round of bidding occurs...
  • Like the first phase, interested players bid by whispering the ML with the number of points they wish to bid and the highest bidder wins.
  • Players can bid any number between 1 and the total number of points they have banked for the current instance; they cannot bid more points than they have (unless everyone interested has 0 points, in which case there will be a roll off for 1 pt bids).
  • The only restriction to bidding on items in this phase is that it must be for real game use by the bidding characer (ie no bidding for vendor loot or vanity items).  It can be for a side-grade or for an alternative armor kit (ie alternative role you plan on playing around with in the foreseeable future.
  • All players can bid in the third phase, regardless of whether or not they have won an item on that run.
  • If, at the ML's discretion, it is clear that the winner of the item has waited until the third phase to bid on a needed item (one that is clearly an upgrade for their primary role) in an attempt to spend fewer points than the minimum bid, the win can be retroactively declared a second phase win, and the player charged the minimum bid value (the player can protest this change, at which point the item will be given to the next highest bidder or sharded).

Fourth phase: shard
Random rolls for shards as-per-usual at the end of the run:  everyone rolls and the shards are handed out by the ML starting with the highest roll and proceeding through the list until the pool of shards is exhausted.  If you would like to put the item to some sort of vanity use (RP etc.), you're welcome to request the item in exchange for donating a void crystal to the guild bank (you won't be charged any points).

Special loot
  • Special quest items that only one person can loot (like Mag's head) are considered boss loot.
  • Epic BoP drops from trash mobs are considered boss loot.
  • Epic BoE drops from trash mobs are considered boss loot, with one exception: instead of the fourth phase being disenchanting, at the ML's discression it is either sent to the guild bank, or all players are allowed to /roll for it for any use (sending to an Alt, auction house, etc).  Players can only win one item this way on a run, until all others have done so.
  • Recipes that make BoP items cost 4 brownie points, and go to interested player(s) for whom the crafted item is most appropriate (someone who has the required profession skill and intends to make the item for their primary kit in the near future).  If more than one person is eligible, the players /roll to determine the winner (a win does not count against boss loot).  If no one on the raid is eligible, the recipe goes to the guild bank (withdrawing the recipe from the bank costs 4 points).
  • For recipes that make BoE items, all interested full members with appropriate profession skill /roll to determine the winner of the recipe (a win does not count against boss loot).  If there is an obvious best candidate(s) for the recipe, the ML can decide who should roll on it, or alternatively if it should be sent to the guild bank (in the case of BoE recipes).  Winners should be prepared to craft the item for their guild mates, because these recipe drops are quite rare Smiley.
  • Epic BoE crafting materials (ex [Nether Vortex]), are collected by the ML and distributed to interested players at the end of the run by /roll off.  Any materials not claimed on the run will be sent to the bank.  Whether the item is won in a roll or withdrawn from the bank later, each will cost players 2 pts from the tier appropriate point pool of their choosing (for example, for a [Nether Vortex] this would be SSC or TK).*new*
  • Epic BoP crafting materials -- none currently in the game...*new*

Miscellaneous
  • When the ML is interested in bidding on an item herself, she will whisper one or more other guild officers with her intended bid before announcing the start of bidding on an item; or will pass off handling bidding on the item to another guild officer.
  • If an Alt is brought on a run at the request of the RL, then that player will earn points for their main from that run and can bid on items in any phase for that alt from the main character's point pool.  The guild will also refund the cost for both respecs for this character from the guild bank funds.
  • Alts which have not been brought because of a specific raid need, but just for fun, do not earn any points and can only ever receive loot in the fourth phase (instead of sharding the item) at the ML's discretion.
  • Players may switch their main according to the new guild guidelines: once in the player's life time they can transfer their Beny Brownie points to a new main. (this limit can be reset if classes fundamentally change, new classes are added to the game, or specific players are asked to switch classes for the good of the guild.)
  • Points are integers.  Sorry, no bidding in fractions.
  • The ML can tweak the rules at anytime to prevent something usefull from being sharded Wink.

*new* denotes changes since version 1.10
